When Will Romo Recognize His Mistakes?

Last Sunday Cowboys' quarterback Tony Romo played a flawless first half of football. The Dallas Cowboys led at the half 20-3. The Cowboys immediately drove down the field to take a twenty-four point lead 27-3 in the third quarter. Dallas' defense was in control of the Detroit offense, continuously putting pressure on Highland Parks' Matthew Stafford. Watching the game it was a laugher. When you thought there was no way the Lions could get back in the game. That's when everything came a part at the seams.

Tony Romo has showed Cowboy fans how good a quarterback he can be at times, but he has also showed Cowboy fans how bad he can be. The first game of the season the Cowboys were leading by two touchdowns going into the fourth quarter. Romo tried to make a play that was not there and fumbled the ball away on the one yard line. The Jets took advantage and scored a touchdown in five plays, to make it a seven point game. Then the Jets blocked a punt and scored the tying touchdown. The Cowboys had a chance to move into field goal range, after the Jets had to punt the ball. The first play from scrimmage, Romo threw a pass into double coverage to Dez Bryant, the pass was picked off. The Jets kicked a game winning field goal to beat the Cowboys 27-24.

Sunday the Cowboys had a twenty-four point lead, then the second half mistakes by Romo started to happen. When he under threw his ill advised pass to Laurent Robinson, Bobby Carpenter the former Dallas Cowboy intercepted the pass and ran it back for a touchdown. The interception by Detroits' Bobby Carpenter was the play Detroit needed to change the momentum of the game. That play fired up the Detroit defense, the Cowboys could not move the ball on the Lions. Tony Romo threw another interception that was intended for rookie wide receiver Laurent Robinson, that was intercepted by Detroits' cornerback Chris Houston, who ran it back for a touchdown. Suddenly the Cowboys twenty-four point lead was cut to a ten point lead. The Detroit Lions defense litterly took it upon themselves to get their offense back into the football game.

While the Cowboys offense continued to struggle, unable to  move the ball on the stiffening Lions defense. Matthew Stafford, finally back on offense, connected with his favorite target Calvin Johnson for two touchdowns late in the fourth quarter to take a 34-30 lead. The Cowboys had a minute and seventeen seconds left to try to win the game despite their offensive woes. However, the Lions roaring defense put pressure on Romo, to force yet another ill advised throw intended for tight end Jason Witten, the pass was picked off for the third time in the second half. The Cowboys twenty-four point collapse, is the worse collapse in Cowboy history.

The Cowboy fans get frustrated with Romo's inconsistent play at quarterback. The Cowboys should be 4-0, instead they are 2-2. The poor decisions Romo made in the first game of the season against the Jets, continued last Sunday against the Lions. It's bad enough his decision making cost him a fourteen point lead in the first game of the season, but last Sundays twenty-four point collapse does not set well with the Cowboy fans. Unfortunately the last collapse was the week before their bye week, so Romo will have to hear the fans and the media for two weeks.

Some people have compared Tony Romo to Danny White. Tony Romo is no comparison to Danny White. That is not even fair to Danny White. Danny White led the Dallas Cowboys to three consecutive NFC Championship games, he was seconds away from going to the Super Bowl. The famous "catch" between Joe Montana and Dwight Clark was the difference in Danny White not going to the Super Bowl. Tony Romo has only won one playoff game.

Tony Romo has the potential to be a great quarterback, but he continues to make ill advised decisions that cost  his team football games. When a football team has a twenty-four point lead, they have to be able to close out the game. With Tony Romo at quarterback this season, they've given up fourteen and twenty-four point leads. A veteran quarterback, such as Romo should be better at reading the defenses that are thrown at him. Romo was asked, about his interceptions Sunday that led to the Lions come from behind victory. Tony said, he would have to look at the film to figure out what went wrong.

The first interception was intended for Dez Bryant, but under thrown. Llinebacker Bobby Carpenter intercepted the pass and ran it back for a touchdown. The second interception, Romo said he saw Detroits' cornerback Chris Houstons coverage on rookie wide receiver Laurent Robinson, he felt like he could throw it through the tight coverage. The third and final interception Romo threw Sunday was intended for Jason Witten, he was in double coverage. Romo had no chance to have enough on the pass to get it to Witten, since he was throwing off his back foot.

"Tony when you don't have a chance to make a play, throw the ball away. For goodness sakes you had a twenty-four point lead. Detroits offense was unable to move the ball on your defense. The game was totally in control, your forced errors cost your teammates another football game."

The Dallas Cowboys have won five Super Bowls, we are used to going to the playoffs on a regular basis. Unfortunately you follow in the foot steps of great quarterbacks like Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman, who have won the ultimate prize. Danny White lead us to the NFC championship, to put us in contention for a Super Bowl. You have won only one playoff game, your inconsistency is unacceptable.

"Dallas Cowboy fans are used to seeing winning football teams, competing for championships. The fans are used to seeing their team perform well from week to week. We are not used to seeing our Cowboys leader throw away big leads, and lose football games."

Will Tony Romo ever live up to the expectations, the Cowboy fans are used to?

Romo, will you ever stop forcing the issue, by making bone headed plays?

"We as Dallas Cowboy fans can only wait and see. If not, the fans will have to suffer through the consequences you put us through. Remember you are wearing the famous STAR, so play like a winner, not like a BONE HEAD."
